Taming the tongue
The human tongue is a tiny muscle. Eating, swallowing, moistening our lips, it has many functions. Scripture talks of the tongues power and never mentions any of those functions. James 3: 5. “So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great exploits. James refers to the tongue as a fire, a restless evil, with the power of a small rudder that guides a huge ship. He advises consistency. If we are a believer blessing God with our speech, there’s no room for speech that God can’t bless. Proverbs is full of admonitions to be silent, speaking after thinking.
That goes against our human instinct. ‘Its my opinion! I need to get it out!”
