Tamar
Tamar’s story in Genesis 38 is curious, misunderstood, and one seldom discussed nor a popular teaching topic. However, this widow’s son, Perez is in the linage of David and more importantly, Jesus Christ. God had a very specific plan to provide for widows. Judah, her father in law, as well as her husband, his brothers, and Tamar knew that plan. If your husband died and you have no children, his brothers or close relatives are responsible for taking the widow as their wife to produce heirs. When Tamar’s husband died, Judah did not follow through. Tamar neither tricked Judah, nor violated God’s plan for her. After baring her son whose father was her father in law, Judah himself stated “She is more righteous than I.
