Strange requests
Sometimes Scripture gives examples of people being asked to do strange things by God’s prophets, even Jesus.
The widow and her pot of oil was told to borrow empty pots from her neighbors to save her sons from slavery.
The widow of Zarapath had one meals worth of oil and grain left–and Elijah said, ‘cook that for me.’ How would that prevent her and her son from starvation?
Jesus said at the wedding in Canan upon running out of wine, “Go fetch 180 gallons of water.”
Are you facing a problem? God’s ask of your obedience may seem to bare little resemblance to the solution you want.
In every example, God’s solution was better than any the humans had in mind.
