School’s open! What does that mean?
55 million elementary and secondary school children are learning–we hope. And they are learning in very different places.
8 million or around 14% are educated independent of state schools
6.5 million are in private schools
Nearly 2 million are home schooled.
While folks like to debate which is better, the reality is that public schools are the only realistic choice for most families, whether because of single parents with limited time, limited resources including money, or simply lack of opportunity.
Rather than debate, lets each determine to help all our children learn. Communities and churches can creatively help. After school tutoring. Sponsoring needed supplies. Becoming a volunteer. Our children are a precious investment worth every effort. Let’s unify to help all our children learn.
