Church Names
We pay attention to church names here. Former names describing beliefs become long and out dated. We opt for ‘New Life,’ ‘The Bridge,’ ‘The Orchard,’ ‘Harvest Time.’
I must say that the names of African churches are more interesting. One Nigerian church is named, “Go Tell Ahab That Elijah is Here.”
Intrigued, I wanted to visit, but my schedule required that I roll on.
Toni Evans recently spoke of a story where an injured person was carried following a sigh to a doctors office. The doctor declined to help saying he’d retired from practice. The frustrated family stated, ‘either help or take down the sign.‘ Toni reminded us, its what’s happening inside that matters. Whatever the title, if we’re not caring about people and pointing them to God, we need to take down the sign.
